Modern English Education is a double blind peer-reviewed journal of the Modern English Education Society (MEESo), which was first published in 2000. The purpose of the journal publication is to promote academic exchange among researchers and teachers in Korea and abroad who are interested in connecting theory and practice of learning and teaching English as a foreign or second language and in broadening their views on English education in general.

All manuscripts are required to be submitted electronically through the official website of Modern English Education at https://meeso.joss.co.kr/. Authors are obligated to create an account if they do not possess one already. All manuscripts intended for publication in Modern English Education should adhere to the MEESO Submission Guidelines. For detailed instructions on manuscript preparation and submission, please refer to our "Submission Guidelines" available at http://journal.meeso.or.kr/html/sub02.asp.

All manuscripts submitted to Modern English Education undergo a rigorous review process. Initially, each manuscript is subject to an internal evaluation, assessing its quality, format, and alignment with the journal's aims and scope. If the paper meets the suitability criteria, it is forwarded to two reviewers who possess relevant knowledge in the field. Additionally, if deemed necessary, a statistical review may be requested. Our journal employs a double-blind peer review system, where the authors’ identities and affiliations are concealed. Authors can monitor the status of their manuscript by logging into the submission homepage at https://meeso.joss.co.kr/.

The final decision regarding publication is communicated to the corresponding author by the editor. Manuscripts that receive negative evaluations are typically rejected. In cases where major revisions are suggested, authors are given the opportunity to revise and resubmit their manuscripts. Upon receiving the revised manuscript, it undergoes a second round of review, with at least one of the previous reviewers providing feedback. If the revised version continues to receive negative evaluations, it will likely be rejected. However, if the final revisions adequately address the reviewers' comments, the paper is usually accepted for publication.

Modern English Education was a quarterly journal that previously followed a publication schedule of February, June, August, and December until 2022. Manuscript submissions had a fixed deadline of two months prior to the intended publication date until 2022. However, starting from 2023, the journal no longer adheres to a specific submission deadline. Manuscripts can now be submitted at any time and, after undergoing the review process, will be published on a monthly basis. The journal does not employ the use of issue numbers.

The financial responsibility for article publication lies with the authors of the manuscript. Upon submission of the paper, authors are expected to pay a review fee. Once the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are required to pay a publication fee. Currently, international authors are exempt from review fees and publication fees.
